7 ways to connect with Inner self

1. see yourself

Get to Know Yourself

In your head, out loud, in a journal, or on video. Ask yourself questions as if you are on a date sitting across from yourself. Some questions that I enjoy are, “What accomplishments are you most proud of? what makes you feel most loved? what hurts you the most? What’s something new you want to learn? What’s your favorite color?” You can be get extremely creative with it as there is little limitations. I encourage you to dive deep and keep in mind the two golden rules, meet yourself with love and honesty.

It is important to know what you like and what you don’t like in order to connect to your inner self. Discovering new parts of your self will help you learn the best ways to let yourself love yourself.

 Mirror Play

Personally the mirror is such a powerful tool. It seems that I will believe whatever I say to myself when I am looking in the mirror. That power can sway positive or negative, this is why I am present and intentional when I look in a mirror. Before looking in the mirror set the intention and affirm whatever part of you that feels disconnected. Sometimes I will begin to get lost in thoughts about my apperance, so i will affirm  “I see my divine beauty, the beautiful soul that lives inside my body. Any so-called imperfection or insecurity is what makes me a unique piece of art”.

Pair these affirmations with movement, masterbation and smiles and I am sure you will be feeling connected and confident with yourself in a short time.

2. Listen to yourself

Meditate

There are different ways that people talk about meditation. One way I would like to share right now is, doing nothing. Natural breathing, no movement, and full of acceptance. Accepting yourself exactly the way that you are. When you sit down or lie down, practice accepting every muscle and releasing resistance. Do nothing. Thoughts will still appear and feel and listen to them go by, even 5 minutes of this a day helps me connect with myself. Sometimes I do find my best ideas come to me in this state. When you get these light bulb ideas it is important to follow through because they were given to you for a reason.

When one is connected to themselves their communication between thoughts and feelings is clear. When I am feeling disconnected or confused by my thoughts and feelings this technique of meditation is helpful. Afterward, I integrate the clarity into the situation that was causing the confusion.

3. Connect with your Body

There are many different movements that I like to embody, here are the two general ones that help me the most. It is important to balance between the two.

Intuitive Movement

When I am stagnant and stuck in digressive patterns I like to move my body freely, intending to surrender to the flow. Sometimes I flow as a leaf in the wind, a wave in the ocean, a flame in a fire, or a tree rooted in the Earth. My choice of flow depends on what type of connection I intend to feel with myself. You can feel this in any movement, in running, dancing, yoga, or walking from your kitchen to your front door. Intuitivley, moving helps me embody trust and the energy that I need in order to connect with my inner myself.

Mind to Body Movement

In this type of movement, I intend to visualize energy moving a part of my body and then feel that visualization come to life. A simple one is I will imagine energy flowing from the base of my spine to the crown of my head. As energy jumps from one vertebrae to another I lengthen my spine. Another example is standing or sitting with the arms at a T and imagining pulling energy up at each section of your arm. First, watch the back of your hand raise, then your wrist, next to your forearm, and so on. The movements have no limitations, be as weird and creative as your imagination will allow. I like to embody this movement when I feel lost or out of control, adding affirmations such as “I am able” and “I am actualizing”.

4. Be with nature

At times when I am feeling disconnected and floating above my body, a way to pull myself back to earth is to feel the ground. Hug a tree, lay on some grass, talk to some plants, listen to the birds, watch the trees blow, lay under the sun, listen to the rain… there are an infinite amount of ways to be with nature. If you are looking for a question to be answered, ask it then listen through your heart and senses. I enjoy asking for favors from nature as well. I ask the trees “may you help me ground into my body, finding stability” I ask the ocean “Please cleanse me and share your vital energy with me so I can go to work with a clear energized mind.”

5. slow down

Connecting to time is one of my favorite ways to experience life, whether I am in the middle of making love, middle of a work day, being overwhelmed by panic, or completely doing nothing. Time is the one thing that is constantly with you and moving. Taking a deep breath and sinking into the fleeting moment as it moves through me will undeniably bring me peace and gratitude knowing I wont be in the same second ever again. This realization and presence helps me connect to my inner self.

6. sensual connection

When people think of sensuality they usually connect it to sexuality, and although sensual sex is one of my favorite experiences, sensual embodiment can be brought outside of the bedroom to help live a more vibrant and visceral life. In any situation your senses are the portal to your reality, without senses what would life be? A simple way to connect to your senses is to light an insence or a candle, then ask “How does the smell feel when it hits your nose? How does your body react to the smell? What does your mind body and soul think of this smell? This practice can be done with all of your senses?”

Another example that i’d like to share is when I am showering. I take a deep breath and let my myself flow into my senses. I feel each drop of water hit my skin as it cleanses my body. I put my head under the waterfall and listen to the beads bounce against my skull. Water runs from my head to my toes. I then message my scalp, and begin to slowly and gently rake my hands through my hair, processing and remembering the way my mind has traveled, through the day or the night, and where it is right now. The sensuality continues from my head to my toes.

It is important to remember to BREATH in moments of sensuality. I find that sometimes senses can be overwhelming especially when I have been disconnected and am reconnecting. I might hysterically cry and that is okay, I just have to keep breathing through it and soon I will come out the other side.

7. Embody your daily Practice

If you feel like your days are just passing by and there is a disconnect between you and your life, create a daily practice. One thing or more that you can flow into every day. Right now, my daily practice in general is music, meditation, movement, and writing. Everyone’s daily practice will be unique, sometimes it will expand and sometimes it will contract. It all depends on what your intention with the daily practice is. The most important part of having a daily practice is embodying it, and intigrating it. Step away from your screen and give yourself time to embody your path and connect with your inner self.
